Our Client is a rapidly growing environmental services organization that aims to transform waste into energy.

Role

The role of the Managing Director is to lead a large business unit by providing strategic direction enabling the company to achieve its missions and objectives.

The successful candidate will own the P&L within Matrix framework, capture revenue growth opportunities, and develop market and client relationships with key stakeholders to enhance market penetration and growth potential.

Tasks

Strategic and business planning:

  • Lead and direct business activities in-country
  • Develop market intelligence and insights; assess business performance against the competitive landscape and the market potential in the Waste Management field in its broad value chain
  • Develop the country strategy and its 5-year plan in line with the corporate strategy and in collaboration with Growth and Service Lines group and local teams and senior leadership
  • Jointly define country yearly business objectives and priorities with Service Line teams in-country and in line with Growth and Service Lines group teams
  • Propose and gain agreement from CGO to annual business plans and budgets, and to strategic initiatives consistent with meeting commercial and financial goals, consolidating growth plans, as well as Service Lines and Enterprise Functions budgets as discussed and aligned with respective teams in-country and their respective leads
  • Own the P&L and control country budget and expenditures and approve deviations and reviews as per the Delegation of Authority Matrix (DAM)
  • Capture all projects and operational overview to ensure a high level of awareness and visibility vis-à-vis external and internal stakeholders
  • Escalate risks and threats on the business to CGO
  • Support, guide, and advise Delivery teams on operations and project matters, especially related to projects finance, customers, and cash/collection
  • Measure and assess the business performance of the country, propose and take corrective actions as necessary
  • Support implementation of group and local initiatives in-country
  • Escalate risks and threats on the business to Chief Growth Officer
  • Develop SLAs with the enterprise functions’ leads, and monitor their execution and compliance

Country Ambassador:

  • Represent the company interests in dealing with external stakeholders and 3rd parties, be it governmental bodies, JV partners, industry groups, business forums, or in acting as company officers, to ensure the best interests are represented consistent with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Understand branding and communications needs. Develop/build and maintain the brand perception and reputation across all internal and external stakeholders in the country
  • Directly be responsible for all country-level communication strategies/plans/execution across all Public Relations platforms – internal and external and advise senior management regarding communications internally and externally, both strategic and tactical. Develop and prioritise PR events, such as tours for government officials, dignitaries, and press events

Business Development & Sales:

  • Lead, both the initiation and the response to, the Regional and Country Business Development opportunities to sustain and increase the growth plans, consistent with meeting margin objectives
  • Ensure appropriate projects are pursued and prioritised. Evaluate and recommend investment projects. Support Chief Growth Office and Senior Management through coordinating and filtering information from all aspects of the business, challenging assumptions and status quo, analysing the information, ensuring key drivers are assessed, their impacts clearly understood, and recommending an investment plan
  • Lead internal and external resources in identifying, developing, and executing new and existing investment projects on a regional or country basis
  • Work with group teams to develop a value proposition, specifically with the group “Solutions and Innovation”, pricing, finance, and procurement
  • Work with the Service Lines in country to build marketing, commercial, and customer strategies to ensure volume retention and growth
  • Develop sales plans. Adjust workforce and operations planning and gain the approval of associated investment strategies
  • Develop marketing campaigns to support sales growth and customer retention
  • Identify market opportunities and propose innovative solutions, products and services to be developed by the group “Solutions and Innovations” team
  • Measure and assess customer satisfaction and take corrective actions with the subject team

Profile & Background

  • Degree in Business Management OR Engineering
  • Master’s in Business Administration (advantageous)

Knowledge

  • Fluent in English & Arabic (written and spoken)
  • Wide knowledge of Environment Services industry, specifically the following service lines:
    • City cleaning & Collection
    • Re-Classification and Disposal (Growth and emphasis are the higher margin Re-Classification and Disposal Service lines)
    • Financial management and wider management principles
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a General Management and Senior Leadership positions
  • Waste Management experience (Internationally)
  • Saudi Arabia market experience (Non-negotiable)
  • Proven ability to improve revenue (build sales, grow the business, identifying and translating opportunities and risk, into actionable recommendations)

Other

  • Saudi nationals (Preferred), with strong commercial network are preferred ~ passionate about environment
  • Saudi Arabia networking experience with both government (public) and commercial (private) customers
  • Domestic & Hazardous Waste Management experience advantageous
  • Open mind to the industry background (Waste, Energy, Oil and Gas, Facilities, Construction, Security)
  • “Sprinter” who can drive multiple elements, ‘hungry’ to grow the business, focusing on building the brand (to number 1 in KSA).
  • Previously accountable for achieving strategic business growth objectives, for ensuring safe and competent implementation of service lines, and for ensuring the appropriate development of employees
  • Rounded technical leadership capabilities, developing team ethos
